History:

The baby shower party is long standing in the United States that gradually has spread abroad and now it is commonly celebrated in most big cities around the world. The purpose of this party is to "shower" the mother-to-be with good wishes, friendship, love and presents.

Planning:

This party carries out two relevant aspects, the date and host in which the event will be celebrated that could be any one other than the future mom's house, including the house of a friend, family or work colleague. Traditionally, the party is held in the final trimester of the pregnancy before the baby is born but in many countries it is usual to celebrate more than one baby shower not only during the pregnancy but even after the birth as a way to give the welcome to the new arrival and buy the appropriate clothing for the baby if the sex is kept as a secret.

Planning a surprise Babyshower?

If it is in your plan for a surprise party remember the hormones play an important role during the pregnancy and such a nice detail can be ruined if mom-to-be is not feeling good the day chosen to celebrate the event. An afternoon baby shower is often the best idea especially during the late stages of pregnancy.

Whom to invite?:

Compose the guest list always asking the mother-to-be and also the dad who they would like to have invited if you are planning a mixed shower for both. Usually family, close friends and work mates are your best bet if you want to give to the mom-to-be this surprise party and don't forget to select the proper theme.

Babyshower theme:

Baby showers parties can be as simple and traditional as baby blue, baby pink or baby yellow or a mixture of new born related decorations including storks, diapers, baby's bottles, cradles, teddy bears, etc. Buy the stationery according to the theme and don't forget the games; being pregnant is not a reason to omit them although obviously you will not be able to include relays, drinking or wild dancing games but there are many other activities for everybody's amusement.

Let your imagination fly and rescue back nostalgic memorabilia to theme your baby shower with fairy tales, childhood stories, nursery rhymes and even all time TV heroes and Hollywood Classics such as the Wizard of Oz or Disney Movies for an outstanding party time including photos, videos and a guest book to let the guests leave their good wishes for the baby to come.

Where, Who and how?

Of course the process will involve the costs of food, drinks, decorations, invitations, postage and many others items apart from the gifts for the baby and the mother-to-be. Most shower parties are made thanks to the contribution of the family and closest friends taking care of the different aspects in the party preparation. This also applies to the budget; encourage everybody to contribute with the expenses excepting the host which home is the advisable location to hold the baby shower but with no obligations or responsibilities added to the mother-to-be. If you feel you can't be in charge of cleaning her house and attended all the aspects of the party itself, opt for local venues, your own house or any house belonging to the mother-to-be's friends.
